Interim policy — not legal advice. This is a plain-language, self-serve draft written to describe how Farmsie actually handles data today. It has not been reviewed by a lawyer and may be updated as the product and counsel review evolve.

This explains what Farmsie collects, how we use it, who processes it for us, and the choices you have. We keep it plain so you can actually understand it.

1. What we collect

We collect the data needed to run the marketplace:

  • Account & profile: email address (used to sign you in), display name, @handle, bio, location, farm details, and any contact methods you add.
  • Phone number: if you choose to verify your phone for a trust badge (verification is handled by our SMS provider, Twilio).
  • Delivery address & approximate location: a delivery address and drop-off pin you enter at checkout, and an approximate location (from your IP or a location you set) used to show nearby listings.
  • Payment & payout data: when card payments are used, your card details are collected directly by Stripe and never touch or are stored on our servers; sellers who accept cards provide payout/identity details to Stripe. We store only non-card references (e.g. a payment/transfer id and status).
  • Marketplace activity: listings, requests, offers, orders, reviews, messages, and uploaded photos.
  • Technical & usage data: basic logs and first-party analytics events needed to run, secure, and improve the site (we don't use third-party advertising trackers).

2. How we use it

To operate the marketplace: show your public profile and listings, let buyers and sellers coordinate and fulfill orders, process card payments and escrow (via Stripe), send the transactional and opt-in emails you'd expect, verify certifications and phone numbers, keep the service secure, and comply with law. We don't sell your personal data.

3. What's public

Your display name, @handle, profile, and active listings are visible to anyone. Contact methods are private by default — only the ones you mark "Public" appear on your profile and are shared with the other party on a confirmed order so you can coordinate.

4. Who processes your data (subprocessors)

We share only what's needed with service providers that process data on our behalf. We don't sell your data to advertisers. Our current subprocessors are:

  • Supabase — database, authentication, and file storage.
  • Netlify — application hosting and scheduled jobs.
  • Stripe — card payments, escrow, and seller payouts (Stripe Connect). Card data goes directly to Stripe; we never store card numbers.
  • Resend — transactional and opt-in email delivery.
  • Twilio — SMS for optional phone verification.
  • Sentry — error monitoring (configured to strip local variable values; may still receive limited technical context).
  • Google — server-side geocoding of addresses (via our proxy).

We may add or change providers as the product evolves and will update this list when we do.

5. Cookies & sessions

We use a session cookie to keep you signed in and a short-lived cookie to remember your approximate location for nearby results. We don't use third-party advertising trackers.

6. Data retention

We keep your account data while your account is active. When you delete your account we anonymize it in place: we scrub your personal details (name, contact info, photos, message text) and remove your public content, but we retain order and review records— with your identity removed — because they are a shared financial and reputation ledger for the other party and may be needed to meet tax and legal obligations. We can't delete an account while it has money in flight (an unpaid, held, or disputed order); settle those first.

7. Your rights & choices

You can edit your profile and change which contact methods are public anytime from your profile editor. From your account settings you can:

  • Export your data — download a JSON copy of your account, listings, and orders.
  • Delete your account — anonymize-in-place as described above.

For any other data request, email us at the address below.

8. Security

We use reasonable, industry-standard measures to protect your data, but no online service can be perfectly secure. Use a strong, unique password. If we become aware of a breach affecting your data, we'll notify affected users as required by law — you can reach our security contact at the email below.

9. Children

Farmsie isn't intended for people under 18, and we don't knowingly collect their data.

10. Changes

We may update this policy as the product changes. We'll update the date above when we do.

11. Contact
